Coin scam rocks Ohio GOP
What do you call a state workers compensation investment fund that dumps $50 million into rare coin purchases? I'm guessing you'd call it corrupt and look for the bad pennies who wasted taxpayer dollars. That's the situation in Ohio tonight where a Maumee rare coin dealer with close ties to the state Republican Party has caused the biggest scandal in recent state government history. The Toledo Blade does a great job of explaining this pig-in-a-poke group grope here.
Former Rethug candidate faces drug charges
Ramie Reisman Resnick of Cleveland, Ohio, is a pretty well-known defense attorney in those parts. Part of her fame rests on her candidacy as a Republican judicial and clerk of court candidate back in the 1990s. Things have come full circle for Resnick, however, since February when she was charged with cocaine possession by Miami University police. In addition to her criminal legal woes, this Gopper is fighting a nasty divorce battle -- repleat with charges of domestic violence on both sides -- against her husband. Read about it here.

City councilman faces abuse charge
Cincinnati, Ohio, City Councilman Sam Malone, a Republican, is facing child abuse charges after he beat his teenage son with a belt. Malone is apparently a serial family abuser. His mother, Drusilla, accused him of choking her in a 1991 complaint. Ironically -- or not -- Malone is a former Golden Gloves boxer. Read about it here.
Kentucky governor's aides probed
State attorney general investigators raided the offices of two aides to Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher Tuesday. Agents seized boxes of documents from the offices. Dave Disponett, treasurer of the state Republican Party, was the target of one of the searches. The AG is investigating allegations that Fletcher's administration used political criteria rather than merit in hiring rank and file state transportation department employees. Read about it here.
Bolton linked to swingers haven
John Bolton has about as much business being the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations as my labrador retriever does practicing neurosurgery. Nevertheless, the mustachioed blowhard is likely to find himself ensconced in the organization he so publicly despises. Bolton, however, has an interesting skeleton in his closet, one involving an ex-wife who left him abruptly in the early 1980s. Why? According to gadfly Larry Flynt, Christina Bolton ended her marriage to John Bolton because of his involvement in group sex parties. John Bolton, at least according to Flynt, was a devotee of the New York sex club Plato's Retreat at the time. Read about it here.

News outlets protect Congressman
Since when is it not news when a Congressman is caught spending some quality time with a woman who is not his wife? When you're a Congressman from northeastern Pennsylvania and the local news outlets go to great lengths to keep your name out of the police blotter. Republican Don Sherwood is our perp. A 29 year-old woman called police last September after she said Sherwood, who was giving her a back rub, suddenly began choking her. Only the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader had the balls to report the incident. Other area news outlets, including the Times Shamrock papers, which publish several newspapers in Sherwood's district, balked at running the story. Read about their spinelessness here.

The Flying Von Kloberg Redux
Renowned blogger and political analyst Murray Waas dropped me a line to share his take on the life of Edward Von Kloberg, Republican lobbyist to the dictators. It's well worth the read and a healthy antidote to the fawning obits published by the Washington Post and MSNBC. Read it here. Murray's blog, Whatever Already!, can be relished here. I can't believe Murray Waas reads the Elephant!
Rethug mayor accused of molestation
Spokane, Washington's, right-wing Republican mayor has been accused by two local men of molesting them when they were children in the 1970s. Mayor James E. West denies the allegations and says he'll finish out his latest four-year term. That's debatable, since the city's newspaper outed West recently, setting a honey trap on Gay.com that caught the mayor red-handed offering gifts, favors and a City Hall internship to a forensic computer expert working for the paper. Read about it here.

Rethug AG candidate haunted by hubby
Jeanine Pirro already has enough baggage of her own going into her bid for New York Attorney General. Now, her Republican husband is piling on with his own woes, most of which center around his dealings with our friends in silk suits (God bless Jerry Orbach, wherever he may be). Al Pirro's Mob problem has already forced him to bolt the Republican Party. Will it sink Jeanine's battleship? Read about it here.
Fat Boy one step closer to prison
Talent on Loan From Cell Block D -- that's the unappetizing future looming for Rush Limbaugh now that Florida's Supreme Court has refused to hear the loathsome radio hack's claim that his privacy was invaded when his medical records were seized during an investigation into his illegal drug purchases. Enjoy his agony here. For additional gits and shiggles, read this statement from Limbaugh's mouthpiece, the always entertaining Roy Black.
Volunteers needed
I need some help here at the Felonious Elephant, namely someone to take on the challenge of getting more exposure for this fine journalistic endeavor. This blog is a labor of love for me, so don't expect any monetary payment. But I am pretty expansive when it comes to appreciating what you've done. E-mail me if you're interested.
Lobbyist takes a final fling
In life, Edward von Kloberg III was a louse, a Republican lobbyist whose clientele formed a Who's Who of late 20th Century dictatorships. In death, Kloberg the louche becomes the subject of a vapory obituary in the Washington Post and picked up here by MSNBC. Kloberg threw himself off a building in Rome last week. Maybe it suddenly dawned on him that he epitomized inside-the-Beltway conservatism.
